Summer plans

This year I plan to travel to the south of Chile, to know the city of Valdivia, its lakes, landscapes, customs and its various activities, I would like to spend three weeks to know the city and its inhabitants very well to see if in the near future I will return to that beautiful city.

In the summer I want to buy a car to get to the south, I have to work hard to save every peso and thus achieve my longed for vacations, I would like to go with my best friend Benjamin Roman my parents and my brothers, I would like to stay in a hotel very rustic, where I connect with the nature of the city and achieve appreciate every moment with my family and Benjamin.

In Valdivia there is a great variety of plants, herbs and trees which I like very much, beautiful lakes such as Lake Riñihue, Lake Piriheico, Lake Panguipulli, Lake Neltume, and the one I would most like to visit Lake Maihue, where you can make several nautical sports such as kayaking, parachuting, navigating the rivers; as well as visiting the Kunstmann beer factories, the steam train, the traditional fog castle, the Botanic Garden of the Autral University.

I would like to meet many people and become friends so that when I return they will wait for me with much affection, achieving strong bonds of friendship with the people of the city. To finish I plan to make a sculpture in Valdivia to leave a legacy in the city and that each person can see the reason why it is one of the most beautiful cities in Chile and in the whole world.

Changes to my study program

I am a fourth year student of Antropology in Universidad de Chile. My career has two "periods" of courses, the first two years all the class has to take the same courses, and then in the third year we have to choose a major to specialize in. There are three options, social antropology, archeology and biological antropology. The first two years are supposted to give a common knowledge for all the students, it's also supposted to give some introduction to the three specialities.

In this four years I coursed in this university, I have noticed some things I would like to change in the curriculum, but now we are in the process of curricular innovation for the ‘ciclo básico’. The principal problem that I see in the curriculum is that the objective of the first two years is to introduce us to our major, but in reality all the classes (or most of them) are only useful to the students that are going to specialize in social antropology, there are a couple classes that are useful to archeologists, so they are not really left out, but there are almost no classes that can be useful for biological antropologists.

I must go to medicine to have class of anatomy, which is a problem. Other problem that we have in the major is that we have only one laboratory in where we can work with bones. This is really problematic because this laboratory is really small and only 6 or 7 persons can work "comfortably". Besides in this semester the major has a lot of subject in where the student need to examine any skeletor (and not only my major need this space. The archaeologist also analyse bones in a subject called "Bioarchaeology"). This is terrible because this laboratory is full all the time and we can't work comfortably.

Postgraduate

Today I’m going to talk about the postgraduate studies. I’m currently studying Physical Anthropology  at the University of Chile and I’ve still got a few years to go. Here in Chile I’m going to end up as a student who finished the undergraduate. The degree in this country it's still ‘new’, therefore the field of labor is little, so we are ‘force’ to go out to specialize abroad.

Currently I like a lot of pathologies and how they influence the formation of skeletal remains, for the same reason I would like to study in London or the United State. The first I've mentioned, London, is because it's in Europe, a continent that I've always been interested in, during this kind of experience I would like to study in a classroom, be able to live in London as part of that experice and, if posible, stay working there.

There is still time until I could do something like this, there's still a lot I've got to think about, a degree to obteain and I think I might get a job in Chile in the mean time, as a trip to London may only be as a vacation.

I might be saying all of this, but by now, it is not on my plans to take a postgraduate studies.

Hello Everybody!

Well, as everybody know it’s election time, and if I have to be honest I’m not really sure about who am I going to vote for. Actually, I don’t know if I’m going to vote ¿why? Well, because I’m not very involved in the process at all, that becomes pretty clear if tell you that I don’t have a lot of information about every candidate and their plans for their possible election.

On the other hand, I think that most of the time electoral campaigns become very annoying and vain, because usually the things said by the candidates are false and only said to have more votes. I also think that this time is very harmful for the environment because the excess of political publicity on the streets produces a lot of garbage and pollution.

Considering that, it becomes pretty clear that I think that a person who is running for a public position should be honest, respectful, engaged with the community and the environment, and interested for the well being of the society. I would never consider the idea of becoming a politician, because it requires a big commitment with the people, something that needs a lot of responsibility from a single person.

If I have to recognize something positive about this year elections is that they have not invaded the streets with their propaganda is signal that shows that something is changing in politics, because the people is being heard. Thanks for reading!

My favourites movies (15.09.17)

This year, I proposed go to the cinema to watch the Oscars nominated films. Obviously I could not. But the movies that I see this year in the Cinemark and Netflix and that recommend are:

Lion 2016

The plot is, Saroo, a five-year-old boy lives with his elder brother Guddu, his mother and his younger sister in KhandwaIndia. One day, Saroo follows his brother to a job and they arrive at a nearby train station, where Saroo decides to stay back and take a nap. Guddu tries to wake him up, but Saroo is too tired. When Guddu does not return, Saroo searches for him and boards a train presuming Guddu is aboard, is lost in a train and when he arrives in Calcutta, he is unable to communicate when he does not speak Bengali thousands of miles from his home. After a long journey ends up being adopted by an Australian pair, who takes to live to Hobart, Australia. Twentyfive years later, with the only help from the Google Earth application, Saroo will try to find his biological family. I like this film and I think that is the best movies of the year 2016 and that should have won the Oscar, as ‘Best film’ because he struggled to find his family, and succeeded.

Split 2017

Is a 2016 American psychological horror-thriller film written and directed by M. Night ShyamalanThe film star James McAvoyAnya Taylor-Joy, and Betty Buckley, and follows a man with 23 different personalities who kidnaps and imprisons three teenage girls in an isolated underground facility. The plot is Casey Cooke is an emotionally-withdrawn teenager, having been molested as a young child by her uncle John, who became her legal guardian after her father's death. While hanging out with her classmates Claire and Marcia, the three are kidnapped by Kevin Wendell Crumb, a man suffering from dissociative identity disorder. This movie is my favorite because I like the way of direction and shooting. In addition it was noticed the warmth of the actors, who were giving him time to be able to interpret his papers well. And the performance of McAvoy is really spectacular.

The breackfast club 1985

Is a American comedy-drama film written, produced, and directed by John Hughes, starring Emilio EstevezPaul GleasonAnthony Michael HallJudd NelsonMolly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy. The storyline follows five teenagers, each members of different high school cliques, who spend a Saturday in detention together and come to realize that they are all more than their respective stereotypes, while facing a strict disciplinarian. I like this movie, first by the band Simple Minds with the song "Don't You (Forget About Me)”, Furthermore, tries to break with the stereotypes that are formed in the different social order that exist in the school, demonstrating that everyone can be friends, no matter if they are brains, athletes, basket case, princess or criminal.
